NASA International Space Station (ISS) Live Downlink “From the Bluegrass to the Blue Marble: Systems in Space”

Model Laboratory Middle School Gifted and Talented students identified in the areas of Math and Science have been given a very unique opportunity!  On January 11, 2013 EKU/KET will be hosting a live downlink with astronauts currently living on the International Space Station at the Hummel Planetarium.  There will be a variety of other interesting activities going on during this special day for students to participant in as well.

Model Laboratory has been limited to five spots for this event.  The students selected will be responsible for submitting a question for potential selection to ask the astronauts during the downlink, and they will be required to participate in the construction and presentation of a group project that will be shared and evaluated on Jan. 11.

With so many eligible students being qualified and interested, it has been determined that we will hold a “lottery” to determine the five students that will be participating in this unique opportunity.  Students will meet during second lunch in the library on FRIDAY, November 30 to submit their name, to be considered for this event. At that time, we will select the five students that will be representing Model Lab along with five alternates, in case students are not able to participate for any unforeseen reason.

It is our wish that ALL students could participate, due to limitations on the number of seats available at Hummel and the number of schools invited.  This is the maximum that we are allowed to take to these events.  ALL students will be able to view the broadcast thanks to KET.
