Model Laboratory School Senior Colin Jackson signed his official letter of intent to continue his education and athletic career at Bellarmine University Wednesday, March 29.

Jackson will arrive in Louisville in the Fall of 2023 as a member of the Division I swimming team.

“This is something you [Jackson] have really been pushing for. Anytime you get to swim on the Division I level, you should be very proud of yourself because it is not an easy thing to do,” Model Laboratory Head Swimming Coach Kevin Knezevich added, “Congratulations; I am super proud of you and best of luck.”

In his Senior season, Jackson was crowned the Region Champion in the 100-meter backstroke and the 100-meter freestyle. He went on to finish in the Top 10 of the State in the 100-meter freestyle and 12th in the 100-meter backstroke.

“The best thing about my job and my position is I get to see these kids grow to become better individuals and better people to prepare them for their future. That is one thing I definitely notice in Colin,” Coach Knezevich said, “He really took on a leadership role and helped me continue to develop these younger kids, and I definitely appreciate him and his family for trusting me with his athletics in the pool the last several years.”

Jackson thanked the many people who attributed to his past, present, and future successes.

“First off, I would like to thank Coaches Kevin and Kyle; for not only being excellent coaches but for always being someone I can look up to and a mentor in my life. I couldn’t be the person I am today without you guys,” Jackson began.

“Secondly, I would like to thank my parents and my brothers for always being there for me and my needs to do anything I want to help me succeed,” he continued, “I would like to thank my friends and my teammates; I would not be where I am without you guys going through hard sets, picking me up when I am down, and always being there for me. Thank you to Coach Brucato for giving me the opportunity to swim at the collegiate level, and I am excited for that.”
