"I know how you'll pass," Mrs. Hardin uttered walking through the classroom door— "With this 'Poe'try Slam and nothing more." Everyone is welcome to join us Thursday evening, 5:30-7:30 p.m., as our seventh-graders present original poetry and art!

We are so proud of fifth-grader Eden Trimble and how she represented Model this past weekend! Eden presented at the Kentucky Science and Engineering Fair at EKU after winning the fifth-grade science fair earlier this month. Thank you, Eden, for your hard work and for #ModelingExcellence! Model student Sanjay Blevins acted as a Senate Page for Senator Jared Carpenter last week in honor and support of World Down Syndrome Day. Sanjay spent the day at the state capital in Frankfort to experience the legislative process first-hand. Sanjay witnessed the Senate unanimously approving Senate Resolution 213, which recognized World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, 2024. We are so proud of Sanjay and his advocacy! 🌟

The Book Fair opens for previewing this Friday, March 22! 📚🥰 Starting Monday, March 25, through Thursday, March 28, the Book Fair will be open for purchasing for grades K-6. Your Elementary child will have the opportunity to preview and create a wish list on Friday before visiting the Book Fair to purchase next week. Model Elementary Grade 5 students put on their lab coats to present their experiments and projects at the annual Science Fair last Friday 🥼 Students showcased all they researched, created, and presented over the term to EKU and Model students and staff. 🥳🔬🧪👩‍🔬 Congratulations to the winners of the Science Fair! Overall-Eden Trimble; Top 3 of Ms. Long's Class-Ruby Tackett, Maya Collins, & Mylah Rhodus; Top 3 of Ms. Holmes' Class-Eden Trimble, Elizabeth Fisher, & Miriam Edwards Families and the community will have the opportunity to see the students' science fair projects at the Elementary Academic Showcase on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

From district to state tournaments to a pep rally, hosting a schoolwide rock-paper-scissors competition and an international food fair, and attending STEM Goes Red at EKU, we have done it all this last week. Today marked the 100th day of school for Model Laboratory Schools, and our elementary students definitely celebrated in style. From sporting outfits adorned with 100 items, dressing as 100-year-olds, to walking in a fashion show, our students were excited to reach this milestone of the school year. Also, grade 2 classes had a special 102-year-old guest—Ms. Hannah Gentry. Students gifted her cards and flowers, sung for her, and asked her what it is like to live 100 years, while Ms. Gentry shared stories and even danced for the students. Mrs. Gentry is the Great-Grandmother of Model 2nd-grader Arevia Gump and mother of former Model Counselor Ms. Ellen Rini.

Next week begins Model Patriot Spirit Week! As the Winter sports seasons come to a close, let's all show our Patriot Pride through fun theme days Tuesday, February 20 - Monday, February 26. 🏀🏊🏹 All Elementary and Secondary students are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Today, on School Resource Officer (SRO) Appreciation Day, we recognize our dedicated SRO, Officer Dotson, for supporting Model students, families, faculty, and staff. Your service is appreciated today and every day! This morning, our students and Director of Operations Laura Dedic surprised Officer Dotson with gifts and lots of love to show how thankful we are to have him protecting our halls ❤🥳👮‍♂️

✨A MAGICAL TIME✨ A group of Secondary Model Lab students traveled to Walt Disney World last week to take courses with Disney’s Imagination Campus. They applied imagination and creativity as they worked together to solve problems in various workshops. The group learned about the “Physics of Disney Parks” and the science behind Disney theme parks at Hollywood Studios, worked with industry professionals in “Disney Broadway Magic” at Saratoga Spring, and practiced effective communication and critical thinking skills in a leadership workshop called “Leadership the Disney Way” at EPCOT. It was a magical time learning together!

Thank you to the Model Parent Organization for showing our teachers some love this Valentine's Day with sweet treats and a soup/chili lunch! We have the best parents, and we appreciate having a dedicated MPO ❤

Our Preschooler friends at Burrier Child Development Center delivered smiles to EKU students and staff today in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week 😁❤️ They brightened everyone's day by giving them candy, flowers, and a note. We are so proud of our youngest generation of leaders for their kindness!
