FYI FOR STUDENT DRIVERS, i.e. parking restrictions on Alumni Coliseum lot: The Upper West commuter section in the Alumni Coliseum lot will be closed on Thursday, September 26, 2024. This section will be closed all day for the family weekend events. All vehicles left in the lot will be towed at the owner's expense. Please utilize the lower section below the baseball field.

Due to a large number of visitors on campus tomorrow, EKU parking is requesting that all Model students park in the lower section of Alumni Coliseum near the KSP post on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱! Yearbook and Media Arts students are hard at work organizing, sorting, and verifying all orders. Once all orders are ready for distribution, all purchasers (including Class of 2024 graduates) will receive an email with details about hand-delivery or pick-up options. 🌍📚🌟 At Model Laboratory Schools, hands-on, engaging learning isn't just part of our world-class education—it's how we inspire students to think critically and creatively! | In Mrs. Marcum's Character Education class, students explored the incredible science of neuroplasticity during their "Befriending My Brain" lesson, identifying and labeling brain parts to better understand how we can rewire and reshape our thoughts and mindsets. 🧠🔄 | Meanwhile, Mrs. Emanuel's class floated through the geography lesson using balloons and made math a little sweeter with candy! 🎈🍬 | In Mr. Messer’s 5th-grade Science class, students delved into the states of matter, mixing liquids and solids, dissolving salts, and observing reactions firsthand. 🧪💧🧂 | At Model, we’re cultivating future thinkers, problem-solvers, and innovators every day! 🌟📚🌍

🎉 Last week, we kicked off the school year with a Senior Breakfast for the Class of 2025, provided by our wonderful Senior families and some Model faculty/staff! 🍳🥞 Also, a big shoutout to Model Parent Organization, Inc. (MPO) for treating the entire school to a pizza party! 🍕 We are so grateful to MPO and our Model families for their generosity in helping us start the year on such a positive note. Here’s to another year of excellence ahead! 🥳

The annual New Family Picnic was a heartwarming welcome into the Model Family, and our 6th Grade Academy enjoyed a day dedicated just to them. It was wonderful to see students exploring their new classrooms and to feel the energy in our hallways again! | A huge thank you to the incredible Model Parent Organization, Inc. for grilling up a delicious meal at the picnic, and to the parents and students who led the Q&A panel for 6th Grade Academy families. We’re also grateful to our student-leaders who greeted families, shared their Model knowledge, and guided tours for our newest students. Our community truly embodies what it means to be the Model Family ❤️ We couldn’t have done it without your support! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back on Monday for the start of an exciting new school year! 🥳

𝗠𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗘 𝗦𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗛!🌟 🎖 Superintendent John Williamson awards this recognition to a faculty or staff member who consistently works hard to serve the Model Family above and beyond, day in and day out, as an exemplar of excellence. 🤩 Dr. Melanie Smith embodies excellence in action through her unwavering dedication to Model’s students, curriculum, and mission. She is a true servant-leader in education. 🏫 Most recently, Dr. Smith was honored as the 2024 KYSHAPE Teacher of the Year for Health Education. She also contributed to the Ky. Dept. of Education Academic Standards Review Committee for Health & P.E. and has presented at numerous state and national conferences. In 2017, Dr. Smith was named the 11th Region Boys Tennis Coach of the Year during her 5-year coaching tenure at Model, where she also served as Assistant Athletic Director. Her teaching career at Model spans across disciplines and grade levels, from 3rd Grade to 12th Grade, covering subjects from health to Senior Research. ❤️ Dr. Smith shares that her favorite part of being in the Model community is "playing a small part in helping shape students as they learn to become physically active and health-literate individuals. I appreciate the opportunities to learn, grow, and explore with the support and encouragement of my colleagues and administrators."

Students, be sure to check the list below to gear up for a fantastic first day of the Fall 2024 semester. ✅ Model’s partnership with #EKU Dual Credit offers our students a unique opportunity to experience real college classes in-person while still in high school. We had an exciting Opening Day with the entire Model faculty and staff, and we were thrilled to be joined by Eastern Kentucky University leadership and the EKU College of Education & Applied Human Sciences! | 🎉 It was wonderful to reconnect after the summer break, and the atmosphere was filled with smiles as we caught up with one another. | 🌟 A special thank you to EKU President David McFaddin for sharing insights on the university's partnership initiatives and inspiring us to pursue excellence in all that we do. | 🏫 We also had the opportunity to visit the site of the new Model facility and discuss the future of our World-Class Education facility with the project's architect. | 💡We ended our day by opening our doors to EKU's College of Education and Applied Human Sciences, collaborating on how our programs can shape the future of education and teacher preparation. | There’s so much to look forward to at Model Laboratory Schools, and we’re excited to kick off the 2024-25 school year! 🤩
