🖼️ Have you noticed something new lining our halls? This year, the Classes of 2026-2029 began a new tradition—signing the Model Honor Code to pledge respect, honesty, and integrity in all they do. Faculty and staff joined them by signing a Commitment of Intentionality, Integrity, and Impact—the guiding theme for the year. Now displayed at the front of the school, these framed signatures serve as a daily reminder of the values that shape our Model community. With a successful Term 1 behind us, as we move into Term 2, we’re proud to continue our commitment to integrity, respect, and excellence in all we do. 🎓🌟

🎃✨ The timing couldn’t be better to look back at our first Chorus Concert of the school year—and the first under the direction of Music Teacher and Chorus Director, Mr. Justin Felix! Our 5th-8th Grade Choirs filled the stage with music that spanned centuries and styles, from Handel’s Art Thou Troubled? to the crowd-favorite This is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

One student, Logan Bruhn (‘31), even made an unforgettable appearance as Oogie Boogie, setting the perfect tone for the spooky season! 👻🎶 Congratulations to our chorus students and Mr. Felix on a fantastic debut performance! 🎉🎤

🧠 It’s not every day you get to hold a human brain at school—but that’s exactly what our sixth graders did!

As part of Model Laboratory Schools’ commitment to hands-on, world-class learning experiences, the NeuroCATS—a group of college students dedicated to inspiring curiosity and a love of science—visited Mrs. Ellen Woolery’s class to teach students about the human brain and neuroscience. It was a truly unforgettable lesson in discovery—and the students’ faces say it all!

Once upon a school week eerie, while they pondered, bright yet weary, Over many a quaint and curious poem of Poe’s dark lore—

While they nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at their classroom door.

“’Tis Mrs. Hardin,” they whispered, “rapping at our classroom door—‘POE’try Slam—and nothing more.”

🌏🇯🇵🏯 Global Learning Beyond the Classroom 🌏🇯🇵🏯 While most Model families used Fall Break to rest, fifteen Model High School students and two teachers spent the week learning new lessons from friends across the globe!

Through the Koryo High School Exchange Program, students visited our sister school in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, where they stayed with host families, attended classes, joined a traditional tea ceremony, toured a historic castle, and even participated in local sports. A special thank-you to Dr. Lynnette Noblitt and Mrs. Angela Hardin for chaperoning this unforgettable experience!

Interested in hosting a Koryo student when they visit in March? Families of Model students in Grades 9-12 can contact Dr. Noblitt at lynnette.noblitt@eku.edu for more details. | Koryo High School Website

Term 1 gave us so much to celebrate! 🎉 From pep rallies and Club Rush to Grandparents’ and Grand-Friends’ Day, our students came together to learn, lead, and connect across all grades. We celebrated success on the field with the Middle School Girls Soccer team earning back-to-back Commonwealth Conference Championships to close an undefeated season and the Varsity Boys Soccer team finishing as District Runners-Up. Moments of connection and service filled our classrooms, too—from buddy reading in the library with Early Childhood and sixth grade, to Public Speaking students sharing stories with our youngest learners, to students providing “Model Solutions” through service-learning. And in between it all? Countless smiles, friendships, and memories made. Here’s to another term of growth, creativity, and community!

📚🎥🧶 From circuits to storytelling to spinning yarn, our classrooms are full of creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning at every level!

📖 In Mrs. Whitley Marcum’s secondary English class, students are developing personal narratives through “I Believe” statements and understanding how to develop multimedia presentations. As part of their “Challenges of a Hero” unit, each student created a Google Slides presentation about a hero of their choice and is presenting their work to the class.

🔌 In Mrs. Revis and Ms. Mullins’ fourth grade creativity class, students took their science lesson to the next level by creating video tutorials about how to build a circuit. They collaborated in Google Docs to write their scripts, filmed with the camera app, and used iMovie to edit their final videos—combining STEM skills with media and communication.

🧵 In Mrs. Willoughby’s third grade class, students have been reading about family traditions and how they connect us to different cultures. After one student’s grandparent—who is the resident yarn spinner at the 18th-century Fort Boonesborough historical site—offered to visit, the class had a hands-on history lesson in traditional yarn making. Each student used a spindle to spin their own yarn and take home a piece of living history.
